Creating An Empty Board With PCB Editor

Open PCB Editor application. Then click File>New.

Enter the name of the board in the Drawing box. Select Board(wizard) in the Drawing name box then click OK. You can determine the location of the file to be saved by using th eBrowse button.

PCB Editor Board (wizard) consists of five sections.

1) Start : It contains definitions. Click Next.

2) Import Data: Click NO in the opened window then click Next.

3) Parameters: Assign the unit section as mil. Select Size A then click Next. Enter 5 for Grid spacing in the opened parameters section. Enter 2 for Etch Layer Count. (This is the layer number of the board you wll use.) Then click Next.

Don't change the values of Layers name and Type sections. Then click Next. Enter 5 for Minimum Line Width. You can enter any padstack (pin type) for Default via padstack section. (Via26 in this example) Click Next.

4)Custom Data: Click Next .

Select Rectangular Board then click Next. In this example the size of the board is:

           Width (W)= 3000 , Height (H)=3000. (1000 mil= 1 inch=2.54cm)

Enter 100 for Route keepin distance. This means that the traces on the board will not be close to the edges of the board more than 100 mils.

Enter 250 for Package keepin distance. This means that the components on the board will not be close to the edges of the board more than 100 mils.

Click Finish.

Now you are ready to transfer the circuit you designed with Capture to the board.
